Can infrastructure do more?
Latimer Lake

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Latimer Park is an old gravel quarry that flooded, forming a lake that is now the centre of a large city park in Surrey. Predominantly undeveloped, the city updated the park’s master plan in 2019 to address the significant changes to the surrounding Campbell Heights area. The master plan facilitated two infrastructure projects to enhance the park and benefit its visitors. The first was a drainage project that will introduce stormwater from the north into the lake. This will include a new wetland area that enhances habitat and improves water quality. The second is the completion of 28 Avenue, which will allow the City to improve safety, accessibility and parking.
With Aplin Martin as the lead consultant, JIM served as the architect of record for various structures on the site, including the installation of the Surrey modular park washroom designed by JIM in an earlier project. JIM’s responsibility also included several boardwalk structures designed by PMG Landscape Architects and Jansson Structural Consultants.
