SALAvage: Re-claiming Keats Wheelhouse
SALAvage, the Design Build x Keats Camp Wheelhouse renovation project, has come to a close. Over the years, the Wheelhouse slowly drifted into disuse, becoming a dumping ground for forgotten items, like mattresses, chairs, and camp supplies. Led by Leslie VanDuzen, James Huemoeller (JIM), and Lys Hermanski, the students at UBC SALA spent six intensive weeks de-nailing, strapping, patching, framing, and sanding to reclaim Keats Wheelhouse as a functional, enduring community space.
JIM served as the project's architect of record. Special thanks to Dan Heath at Airey Point Engineer and Boris Dabic at InSynch Engineering for helping out with the build system designs.
Hope the work this semester charts a new course for the Keats Wheelhouse beyond its years as a catch-all storage space.
