NOLA S+S
This house focuses on a controlled experience of light. The user’s inhabitation of the space was developed in conjunction with the needs of the Passivhaus standard.
The project uses both screens and shells to minimize mechanical system load. Comprised of an air supply heat pump supported by an energy recovery ventilator and dehumidifier. The envelope of the building focuses on high thermal resistance while ensuring adequate moisture permeability within the wall cavity. The exterior of each shell is wrapped with high albedo, fully adhered white EPDM. The screen shading gable ends, constructed from borite impregnated dimensional lumber, help prevent solar heat gain. The disjunct between shells, which forms the main entry and dining room, is clad with thermally insulated translucent panels.
